Liberty Station Hampton Inn & Suites

This 181-room hotel sits within the former U.S. Naval Training Center at Liberty Station in San Diego and takes its design cues from the city's aviation history. Challenge As the first custom hotel in the district, the project had to balance brand standards, the guest experience, and the site's military and coastal history. It also had to meet the daily operating needs of a modern hotel. Solution We shaped the early vision through massing studies, feasibility analysis, and concept design, setting the building's layout and character. The two-story lobby is modeled on an aircraft hangar, with exposed timber trusses, butterfly roofs, and large operable doors that open the space to the outdoors. Materials + Craft Clean, contrasting facades and aviation-themed interiors pair efficiency with warmth. Exposed structure, durable finishes, and custom artwork draw on San Diego's aviation and maritime history.
